Surmani , Shiromani Madhavi Nanal belongs to the legacy of Gayanacharya Paluskars from Gwalior Gharana. She started her professional coaching under Gangabai Paluskar, Dr. Kamlakar Joshi, Pt. Yashwant Bau Joshi and Padmashree Manik Verma. Her deep research in classical music lends excellence to her singing. Her repertoire includes Khayal, Thumri, Bhajan and Natyasangeet. Smt. Nanal heads various organizations and is the ex-editor of Sangeet Kala Vihar, Om Nadabramha and her article ‘Nadanga’ in ‘Maharashtra Times’ was very popular. Her personality also exhibits very good inclination towards Marathi Natyasangeet. Surmani Madhavi Nanal, an artist approved by ALL INDIA RADIO. She is well cognizant of Yogsadhna & Voice Culture. Her hobbies include reading, writing and listening to other musicians and singers along with her daily Riyas. Envisaging, studying and memorizing different tunes and taal in various Bandhishs and delivering lecture demonstration resulting in a continuous value addition comprises another activity of interest. She has given Music and Voice for a special CD “NityaSadhana” created for enchanting stotras. In many of her contributions to music one of the notable work done is this unique compilation of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajans (Sabarmati Ke Sur) is an initiative of the Gandhi SmarakNidhi, Mumbai. The concept of bringing this wonderful inspiring music to today’s generation is Smt. Usha Gokani’s (Granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi), Chairperson of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi. The voice for all bhajans has been given by Smt. Madhavi Nanal along with the narrations by Shri. Ameen Sayani.
